Our Approach to CSR

Corporate social responsibility – CSR – plays a central role in corporate philosophy at the Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group.

For us, CSR means demonstrating responsibility beyond the regulatory obligations and provisions, doing so with great commitment and dedication, and anchoring this in a sound CSR management system. At the heart of this naturally lies the responsibility that goes with our core business, i.e. the all-important topic of responsible gaming.

Our Clear Goal – Best in Class

But CSR in the Casinos Austria and Austrian Lotteries Group also goes far beyond responsible gaming: it covers the full spectrum of our economic, environmental and social responsibility. Our goal thereby is simple – we strive to be the best in class.

Certified Management System

To professionalize our engagement for corporate social responsibility, we have introduced a CSR management system that complies with the Austrian ONR 192500 Standard “Social Responsibility of Organizations (CSR)”. The effectiveness of this management system has been audited and verified by the Austrian Standards Institute.

Our CSR management system is managed by our dedicated CSR Department.

It extends to all business units in the group (with the exception of the “International Business” unit) and helps them to adhere to our seven principles of social responsibility.

Accountability

We are fully aware that our decisions and actions have an impact on society, the environment and the economy. To avoid any negative effects and increase our positive impact, we have developed a CSR Strategy 2020 in which we define our CSR goals and measures. This strategy is evaluated and adapted at regular intervals to ensure that it is continually improved and remains in line with the precautionary principle.

Transparency

We have been publishing CSR reports and organizing internal and external CSR information events for many years. In doing so, we provide information on our engagement for CSR. We will continue to do so in the future, ensuring thereby that such reports and events remain focused and transparent.

Respect for Human Rights

Respect for human rights is accorded special emphasis in our Code of Conduct. We are committed to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and take internal and external measures to respect these rights.

We have set ourselves a number of clear goals for our CSR activities. These goals will enable us to further develop both our engagement in this field as well as our CSR management system.

Respect for Stakeholders and Interest Groups

The concerns and interests of our stakeholders are very important to us. But it is also important to us that our stakeholders are aware of and accept our values. This can only be achieved by listening intently and consistently to their demands and expectations and hearing what they say.

We do so using a dialog-based approach, e.g. by inviting our stakeholders to participate in the annual Stakeholder Dialog that we organize during our Responsible Gaming Academy event.

Ethical Conduct

We strive to conduct ourselves in an ethically correct manner. Our Code of Conduct, internal guidelines (e.g. for procurement) and CSR strategy all reinforce our fundamental values.

Respect for the Rule of Law

We respect justice and the law and endeavor to abide by the rules in all our business activities. To ensure that we do so, we have implemented a comprehensive compliance management system.

Respect for International Standards of Conduct

Our engagement for CSR is oriented on international standards of conduct.

We are committed to the UN Global Compact and its human rights, labor, environmental and anti-corruption principles. We are an active member of the Austrian Global Compact network through our membership of respACT, Austria’s leading platform for CSR and sustainable development.

Our CSR strategy is also aligned to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.

Our CSR reports are compiled according to the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) reporting standards. They also adhere to the provisions of the Austrian Sustainability and Diversity Improvement Act even though these provisions in their current form do not actually extend to our group.

We have set ourselves a number of clear goals for our CSR activities. These goals will enable us to further develop both our engagement in this field as well as our CSR management system.
